Pink Saturday Berries for the Birds and Deer

Our lane has a long row of native Anaqua trees. They have a dark green leaf that is leathery and rough like a cat’s tongue. Every spring they are covered with clouds of white star-shaped flowers. By mid to late summer, they are covered with little berries about the size of small cranberries..

Anaqua berries

They start off being yellow, then they turn pinkish coral and then deep pinkish purple. As they ripen and fall, the birds and the deer enjoy the bounty.

Mama doe enjoys a quick snack of berries.

nice rack

Papa buck joins her some mornings…He is still “in velvet” and his horns are round at the tips…looks like 8-points.

twin fawns

The baby twins usually hang around in the thicket, but once in a while, they venture out to join mama munching on the sweet berries…

twins with mama doe They are pretty shy… she has taught the little ones to seek cover when we are in the yard. But she comes pretty close; in fact, if I’m offering bread, she comes very close…

Now, isn’t that just the sweetest little face? And just look at those big eyes…I used to fuss at her for munching on my pink roses…but I’ve had an attitude adjustment…more of a “ PINKatude” and as I have said before, the roses have never made me as happy as my little deer families with their new babies every spring…Now swing in to Beverly’s blog to pick up the list of today’s Pink participants. You know there’s sure to be lots of fun.

Happy Pink Saturday Sweetie...
What a beautiful share this morning. I love the colored berries on the trees. How pretty they look, and then nature gives them back to the breathing beauties in the deer. I love it.

Your photos of the deer twins, little spots, just precious. I love it. I also love the Daddy with his beautiful rack. She comes right up to you to take the bread. How wonderful that is.

You are so lucky to have such beauty surrounding you. It is so gorgeous.

Thank you for sharing with me today. Please stop over and say hi. I would love to have you visit.

Country hugs sweetie...Sherry

Ahhhhh....that's just the cutest post!!

Sadly, we're having a huge issue of over population of deer in our area....so many deer/car encounters. In fact, my daughter nailed a part of a deer leg when she was pulling into her apart. complex ----it JUMPED out in front of her car late at night..in the middle of the Kansas City Metro area! She was so upset that she hurt it...we were upset that her brand new car had a major dent in it...but also thrilled she wasn't hurt. Now, on the other hand, I think they are beautiful creatures and love their beautiful eyes, too!! I know those sweet deer appreciate your kindness about letting them nibble on your roses!! :)

Happy Pink Sat!!! dana

Always fun to see the wild life roaming the range.
I too, won't be able to make the Wicked Tea Party but looks like a hoot of a time.
We are enjoying some of the rain and I need to get out and work on the burn piles.
Thanks for the visit and have a great rest of the week.
Blessings ;-)

They are still spotted at this time.

Show and Tell Sunday June 15

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
