Happy Sunny Valentine’s Day

It’s so great to have sunshine again, the perfect weather for happy sunny thoughts. Elizabeth at Creative Breathing http://creativebreathing.blogspot.com/

sponsored a Dolly Dingle Valentine swap that I wasn’t swift enough to join, but my friend Nancy at My Crafty Little Page   http://www.mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/ invited me to a side swap that she was hosting. There were five of us, I think. I only had to make one for Nancy while she made one for Elizabeth and then one for  each of her swap partners…so what was Nancy’s total number of Valentines…too much like a math word problem to me. Here’s the one she made for me! Isn’t it cute?100_1157

She layered a very vintage BINGO card with a lacy heart and German scrap. She stamped a bright heart and added a bit of an old dictionary page that reads “Be my Valentine”.  It has a gold foil cupid to carry the message and it hangs on a red satin ribbon.  I love the look of that old German scrap…and the sweet faces are just the best.

I like them so much, in fact, that I had chosen similar vintage German Scrap for the Valentine she would be receiving…the children could be little German cousins.

“Love makes the World Go Round” is the theme of this tri-fold card…I used an old yellowed book in German along with a 50’s era school map and sheet music so Nancy could  sing along with the theme.

And I even decorated the back so it could be free standing and viewed from behind.

It was a really fun swap and I’ll try to be more alert and timely next year, but I must say that I’m pretty happy with the way things turned out.  Have a lovely day… count your Blessings and hug someone extra tight.

Me too!!! Love how the way it turned out. I really, really love this and of course it will decorate our shared assisted living room - haha. I have the little girl to match the little boy for you. I was outbid on a boatload of French Children's books today at the auction I sat through until the end just to bid on them! Ack And they were vintage, too! Sobbing just thinking about it. I should have called you and we could have split. Now I think of it. Live and learn. Hasta luego, amiga y Happy Valentine's Day y thank you for the most fabulous valentine! xo Nancy

Nancy has become a paper artist hero for me. I always look forward to her innovative ideas. It is so sweet to see the "other half" of my Valentine from her. I have the little girl. The vibrant colors just make me swoon. Have a Happy Valentine's Day! Elizabeth

That's awesome that you two both selected German cutouts for your Valentines! I love the one I received from Nancy and certainly see that yours is wonderful, too! How neat that you created it to be free standing!!

Hope you're having a great Valentine's Day!

They are still spotted at this time.

Show and Tell Sunday June 15

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
