Happy Anniversary Pink Saturday!

What a milestone! And how quickly the days have added up! Today I’m sharing pinks from a candy shop in New York City. It was my first trip to NYC and I was like, what else?, a kid in a candy store!

It was all decked out for Mother’s Day and the entire shop was festooned with pink flower garlands.

See what I mean?

The staging and packaging made the chocolates irresistible…I bought an assortment after I had snapped pictures of every window and every display.

Wish the smell could come through the Internet connection…your mouth would be watering about now!

Before I left for my big NYC adventure I did finish two pages for Dana’s(The stone Rabbit)  Circle Journal…and of course, the pages included plenty of pink. First came the background pages…hand pieced fabric collage/assemblage from my scrap jars…

with pieces of pink in hand, I pressed and stitched together  a couple of squares to create backing and pockets. I layered in a couple of flowers here and there.

The letters across the top are G-R-I-T-S. It stands for Girls Raised In The South…and since Dana asked us each to supply 5 words that described  ourselves, that seemed like a starting place. There are five pockets, one for each letter. Each pocket holds a collection of tags and reclaimed cards that explain how each letter fits me.

I love making and filling pockets in altered books and journals.

The “R” stands for Recycler, so there were loads of examples of reclaimed and repurposed additions,

A set of wedding shower invitations from the 80’s found new life when they were collaged and stamped and stickered for the pockets. I even found a notepad from Missouri, Dana’s home state, and added the Show-Me state’s map to one of the cards. Dana’s blog was one of the first that I started following back in the early days of Pink Saturday.    What a perfect way to celebrate Beverly’s 4th Anniversary! The Circle Journal group is having a ball celebrating our shared projects.  Be sure to say congratulations when you visit How Sweet The Sound.

LaVerne....I am SOOOOOO eager for my journal to return to me in October. Your pages are just super-fatabulous! I love how you recycle items in such creative and artistic ways! It's such a treat to see your addition to the various journals...thank you so much for adding such a wonderful 2 pages to mine!!!

I've just been to NYC once.....and I was just like you. I LOVED every stinkin' minute we were there. I went with 2 girl friends and we still talk about what we did/saw while there. I'm so glad I got to eat at Tavern on the Green.....it was so amazing. My favorite part, besides seeing three Broadway Shows, was visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was truly a memorable time. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit!!!

They are still spotted at this time.

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
