Pink Saturday soaking in Beautiful Rain

We are so happy this Pink Saturday…it’s raining bucketsful. The turkey roaster birdfeeder was filling up with water so Hubby moved it to the patio. He put it on a little side table unsure if the birds would come to an unfamiliar location …

First a male Cardinal came for sunflower seeds…

Then a cute little Titmouse perched on the edge and started munching on seeds. He grabs one then flies up into the tree to open it.

This female Cardinal and a red headed Sparrow landed below to pick up the seeds that had been scattered on the patio. They don’t seem to mind the rain and it certainly didn’t affect their appetites!  Next month they’ll be building nests and laying eggs.  Then we’ll be adding an extra scoop of birdseed and more sunflower seeds to help them feed their chirping little mouths.

For now we’re enjoying the rain that will get the earth ready for spring. The Lantana behind the garage have survived the winter and are still blooming beautifully. The native plants out in the open parts of the lawn have frozen back and will need to be trimmed back next month.

I’ll wait to trim these back until things are blooming in other places around the yard. That way the early butterflies will have food in the first couple of months of spring.

Native Lantana plants make juicy berries that birds enjoy and so they are common along fence lines where our feathered friends deposit them. After this rain, we can expect lots more to show up in fields and roadsides this summer. This bright purple variety is a hybrid that does not produce berries. If it were not next to a wall, it would not look like this in February.

So my Pink this week is in the form of red and purple in actual color, but very Pink in spirit. Now for a beautiful dose of Pink, head on over to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound   http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ to see who is sharing this Saturday. Hope your week is Pink and your spring comes soon.

LOVE your turkey roaster bird feeder!! The idea that many of their larger, feathered friends ended up in that roaster doesn't seem to keep those little birdies from enjoying their own little meals out of it! I'm glad you guys are getting rain!! We've had about an inch of snow this winter...and a few days of rain...but really, very little precipitation. I hope that doesn't meal we will be very dry throughout the summer, too.

Your flowers are lovely, LaVerne. I can't imagine living in an area that still blooms in the winter...how wonderful!!

Happy Pink Saturday Laverne Sweetie...
What a beautiful share. I love seeing your male and female Cardinals. (While visiting my folks this past year in Oklahoma, I watched a Daddy cardinal feeding the little girl cardinal. She would really holler if he wasn't feeding her fast enough.) It was so much fun.

Your roaster bird feeder is absolutely delightful. What a wonderful idea. It would feed many more at a time wouldn't it? It's just darling.

Your lantana is beautiful. I wonder if that would grow here in Phoenix? I have been wanting to plant something that would attract butterflies in my yard. Any ideas?

Hope you have a beautiful and glorious weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
