Spring is Coming After All…

Just when we were ready to give up on sunshine and warmer weather, and clear skies, Mother Nature taught us a lesson today…we have a reminder or two that the seasons are on track…the first is a blooming reminder…

The peach trees are starting to bloom…and the cold temperatures we have suffered through this winter are actually good for Texas peaches…so we are hoping for a bumper crop in the Hill Country…the day may be a little gray, but the peaches are certainly in the pink.

And now the greatest spring miracle of all…look down toward the river bank…

That’s right, baby ducks…well, goslings to be perfectly correct. Mama and Papa are Egyptian Geese…we were calling them ducks when they would come eat corn and bread at the deer feeder…when they visited the front yard, I began leaving birdseed and bread at the edge of the road…they always came as a pair…then only he came for a couple of days…”Do you think she is building a nest?” we wondered…”naw, still too cold”…then a couple of days later he would visit,  eat only part, then  later she would come honking up a storm and with a fierce appetite… we worried about the break in their pattern until today when Hubby announced that we were grandparents!!!Eight little goslings!!! We are so happy for our beautiful pair…We are leaving for a weeks’ vacation and can’t wait to see how big they are when we return.

If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by to say “Hi”…and bring bread.

Pink Saturday All Week Long

I’ve been celebrating Pink Saturday all week…It started last Monday with my Beta Sigma Phi chapter…we had a Valentine gift exchange with our secret pals…we call them our Beta Buddies…my gift was darling…a Department 56  lighted M & M house with a dish in front for a heaping dose of M & M’s…we call them little pills for “Whatever Ails You”…Isn’t it just the cutest little house?

And we had cookies with our name on them…heart shaped, of course.

valentines party at nancy's 2010 017   And frosted with shades of pink…But there’s more. On Wednesday  our friend Nancy hosted a crafting luncheon for our girlfriends’ crowd…or the Ya-Yas as we’re also known. She has a wonderful blog…it’s raining valentines over there…stop in to say “Hi”. http://www.mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/

She had letters all printed and ready to go for us to cut and create a Valentine banner. Her sweet hubby served us so we didn’t have to leave the work table or the banners we were creating…

Chicken salad on a croissant with fruit and poppy seed dressing…and our favorite poinsettias to toast the day.

We each had lovely banners to hang when we got home. Here’s mine…not nearly as well done as the others, but here alone with no competition to show it up, it looks just fine and Mama’s happy with it.

And so it’s been a super week…pink from start to finish…Now stop in to give Beverly a hearty hello http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/     and add lots of  get well wishes. I think Beverly needs a few M&M’s while she recuperates. Stay warm and dry until we meet again.

Pink Saturday Longing for gloves and Corsages…

It’s been a long, cold, wet winter here in Central Texas…and we’re ready for spring and sunshine. Usually we are year around iced tea girls. But this year I have the same bag of ice in the freezer that I bought before Christmas…you think I’m kidding?…It’s been hot tea, hot cider, hot cocoa, more coffee…I’m just so ready for spring that I’m playing make-believe…I’m pretending that it’s almost Easter and I’m picking which gloves I’ll wear this year…

chinese new year tree pink gloves 012  I guess I should pick PINK in honor of the day…they are easy to find stored in their PINK  satin glove keeper…

Isn’t that just the sweetest lingerie drawer accessory? I was thinking that I wanted to go back in time  and pin on a rosy velvet corsage like this vintage beauty…

Yep, I was dreaming of slipping into my lovely gloves

Then I realized that in those Audrey Hepburn days there were no microwave ovens… and then I also recalled that back in the day there were girdles and garter belts…and we never went anywhere without stockings…and we had to sleep in hair rollers because curling irons had yet to be invented…and worst of all there were no blogs…no far-flung friendships via the net…it gets worse: there was no Netflix…NO NETFLIX!!! And so I’ll admire those sweet pink reminders of days gone by while I dream of spring flowers and Easter colors. And I’ll visit Beverly and all the beautiful pink that the day has to offer…http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

Isn’t that the best part of Pink Saturday…no matter what the day is like, we always have this beautiful, inspiring retreat waiting for us just a few key strokes away…Thanks, Beverly. And thanks for stopping by.

Show and Tell Sunday June 15

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
