After all, everything was on my phone...pictures, email, Facebook...anyway, I drifted away from my original social media site. Now I have become so impatient with Facebook pop ups and the constant negative political climate and the constant ads that I have grown homesick for the likes of Pink Saturday where loveliness and pretty things and ladies with manners prevail. I may not always Pink the Color to post, but I always have Pink the Attitude to share. So this Saturday I want to visit with Beverly and see what's blooming.<br />

I'm going to play with layout again and retrain and reteach myself how to use blogspot, but it will be worth reconnecting with my blog friends.<br /><br />LaVernehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13117114953839200513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2810989474074275542.post-16786384147777835142014-06-06T20:40:00.001-05:002014-06-06T20:40:44.731-05:00Pink Saturday Surprise in the Mail<p>Today’s mail arrived with an extra special package! A beautiful little hand made book that our group calls Itty Bitty Books. The first one was made around 2008 and was the creative vision of Mary Ann McKeating. She has been the driving force of our IBB projects for all these years. Together the group has made about twenty of these little treasures.  I’ve shared them in several Pink Saturday posts over the years. The latest IBB was created to cheer Mary Ann as she battled cancer.  The chosen theme was LOVE.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-S0aY45UeSoQ/U5JtSxHYzrI/AAAAAAAAD0U/kNi4qcxCdsE/s1600-h/2014-06-06%25252017.54.34%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2014-06-06 17.54.34" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="2014-06-06 17.54.34" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-33tDMjLyUzI/U5JtT13udZI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/0OZy1zWLkOI/2014-06-06%25252017.54.34_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="306" height="413" /></a></p> <p>I could hardly wait to open it.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-zl2tzeOlUmI/U5JtU8Tl0ZI/AAAAAAAAD0k/sUhpjEfTPqQ/s1600-h/2014-06-06%25252017.56.17%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2014-06-06 17.56.17" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="2014-06-06 17.56.17" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-v3Y2pT_2HJw/U5JtVVljN0I/AAAAAAAAD0o/fKfM9Ycr9qM/2014-06-06%25252017.56.17_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="329" height="445" /></a></p> <p>We all used creamy tones with touches of Pink. That’s right FRANCE! It was a Pink Saturday for sure! Now I’m back home and lucky enough to celebrate  this special anniversary with <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a> and my Pink Saturday friends!</p> <p> This shot was taken on May Day when flower vendors were on every corner selling little bunches of Lily of the Valley and other small bouquets. I purchased a handful from this lovely lady pushing a cart and a colorfully clad doll. May Day is the French Labor Day and it’s very political. She was talking excitedly with great passion, but  my French was sadly lacking and I never figured out her cause or agenda or her message…but her flowers lasted most of the week!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-teVfrP-jzag/U3-ZZaA1A2I/AAAAAAAADy0/laujqWfDDus/s1600-h/100_5515%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="100_5515" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="100_5515" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiuP3QWAiRwspHn247-qmvFMRFLmAaFskVQRUQmX9W_TxY194zlg3Xh-VCyJaqpd6jN0EFHyiamaRs84qOvb6C5v8203PPgmmia-WCxiTmOZIxkfmpJBFyalDAnrEF2UvAsA-_QegjZWo/?imgmax=800" width="512" height="469" /></a></p> <p>The real Pink of the trip was out at Giverny, Monet’s home and gardens. They are breathtaking. </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji3ZGB1ub1H4AW73T9lyqcs8SF5C7Shh2G-PkYq2Kv_emua0qV14YXCJS1ktbbgXkFdznnlv7IrM-y588ysiuwfUeIoEBjMaYgT9bLCfrpFc3VzeD8zAuFTqLgztlrfG26_lmar-I_WcU/s1600-h/100_5751%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="100_5751" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="100_5751" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-rULJ2nnYP1s/U3-ZcpR9RGI/AAAAAAAADyQ/Ga14P66k9_c/100_5751_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="527" height="405" /></a></p> <p>My little tourist Kodak could not come close to capturing the Pinkness, but his artist’s eye was perfection! After being cut, sealed with gesso, painted, and embellished with all sorts of fun little vintage Easter elements, these look nothing like cardboard cartons!<br />

Last month when my Ya-Yas got together, we made some real beauties together and now I want to spread my wings and teach a small group.<br />
Here’s the plan: I figure I can easily put together kits of materials for several crafters. The skill level is pretty basic, anyone who knows her way around a glue gun should be able to learn the steps. We will make a couple of the easier round style…<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Rhf9SbTqJ6k/U0G4_MS3CvI/AAAAAAAADwc/bCFUU2M97vk/s1600-h/0128cb70719b1caafbb29790fd208e4408033da619%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="0128cb70719b1caafbb29790fd208e4408033da619" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-q_7fb7PoY-o/U0G4_7Lq3II/AAAAAAAADwk/vMAojxdSxO8/0128cb70719b1caafbb29790fd208e4408033da619_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="445" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="0128cb70719b1caafbb29790fd208e4408033da619" width="326" /></a><br />
Before taking on the taller Fairy Castle look.<br />

The taller tower looking style isn’t any harder, it just uses different cuts.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tgIIdHAQzEU/U0G5Func3OI/AAAAAAAADw8/hnsKiTTztrw/s1600-h/01df62fdd6b50f3beabf0a865cb0fc3d42c3b3be12%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="01df62fdd6b50f3beabf0a865cb0fc3d42c3b3be12" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--1tHP5JB8Vw/U0G5GPsKBVI/AAAAAAAADxE/DU4d4v5mq3A/01df62fdd6b50f3beabf0a865cb0fc3d42c3b3be12_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="476" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="01df62fdd6b50f3beabf0a865cb0fc3d42c3b3be12" width="352" /></a><br />
The finished ornaments are between six and eight inches tall. They are decorated all around and are pretty when viewed from any side. Crafters won’t need to bring a thing. We will use my stash of paints, flowers, lace, and other trims along with vintage Easter “characters” to create t<strong><u>hree</u></strong> <strong><em> </em></strong>very special <strong><em>one of a kind </em></strong>ornaments.<br />
I’ll do the “heavy lifting” by cutting the cartons and doing the prep work with the coats of gesso. They will be ready and waiting for the fun part. Since we will have to spend some time waiting for paint or glue to dry, the project will take several hours. If we start at 9:00-ish, we can be finished by 1:00-ish. I’ll provide mid-morning tea and a little snack and then at noon, I’ll offer a light lunch.<br />
All tools and materials will be provided along with a take home kit of egg carton cuts and copies of the original 1970’s<strong><u> Woman’s Day</u></strong> magazine article where my mother and I first learned to make these. Once the basic techniques are demonstrated, it’s easy to create these tiny treasures for different seasons.<strong>The class fee is $50.00. </strong>We will complete three ornaments in class and three more will be included in the <strong>Take Home Kit</strong>. …You can message me on Facebook or e-mail me at <a href="mailto:lbjonriver@satx.rr.com">lbjonriver@satx.rr.com</a> <br />

I still even had the original instruction pages  from <em><strong>Woman’s Day.</strong></em> Since then I have shared the instructions with several readers who wanted to make some for themselves.</p> <p>This February when my Ya-Yas and I were “wintered out”, we needed a Spring Forward project. And so we gathered supplies for  these special ornaments. First, a pink one, of course.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-jyej-e4ZQ0E/UzYph8_IhBI/AAAAAAAADsQ/KBcQ9laGqm0/s1600-h/sea%252520tin%252520182%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="sea tin 182" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="sea tin 182" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-GPkpYfRi6VU/UzYpisSguCI/AAAAAAAADsU/LetTb7vdwTk/sea%252520tin%252520182_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="332" height="449" /></a></p> <p>I think Patty made this beauty. With all the lace and beads it’s difficult to tell that underneath is an egg carton. That’s right, an upcycled, reclaimed, recycled cardboard egg carton. We started with sections cut from the formed gray cardboard grocery store cartons!</p> <p>Here’s another cut from a different style carton…</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JfbvPoTlilQ/UzYpkXz-fjI/AAAAAAAADsg/VwBbD8wCqCk/s1600-h/sea%252520tin%252520188%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="sea tin 188" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="sea tin 188" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-oAXrM2hV4M8/UzYpkwMQ6hI/AAAAAAAADsk/SKnPqSVAijg/sea%252520tin%252520188_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="361" height="488" /></a></p> <p>It had a scrap from an old crocheted doily along with tiny flowers. Mind you, nothing was purchased for these creations. Everything came from our combined crafts supplies!  And another Pink ornament…And a sweet little bunny in her bonnet dangles from another. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-rpXhlmGmmEg/UzYplczh7WI/AAAAAAAADss/dROSDE1ujq0/s1600-h/sea%252520tin%252520192%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="sea tin 192" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="sea tin 192" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--zUqdKWsZJg/UzYpmUZdl6I/AAAAAAAADs4/sTEBoYC-QUA/sea%252520tin%252520192_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="362" height="489" /></a></p> <p>Nancy of <a href="http://mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">My Crafty Little Page</a> made this cute basket using only one section of carton .</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUqQDAggWTwSYLjD8SZnK5QpErXyb1S0-qOeUCPM2R2XbRThC-hKiHI-pTJ8IOr4LZJbSeVToO7DFpYNd7CiFaThKN3zOLGgeYdkvP80gGmQ0epG1ZdDXNPsQrsHyVYsKxdEV6OczA_KA/s1600-h/sea%252520tin%252520191%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="sea tin 191" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="sea tin 191" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fvqyKCyA0JU/UzYpnkG3cdI/AAAAAAAADtI/FCzbWE3-eVg/sea%252520tin%252520191_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="363" height="496" /></a></p> <p>We loaded them up with vintage Easter grass and wooden miniatures and tiny eggs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always the first to welcome fall and I look forward to making our first batch of simmering chili. We love kettles of steaming soup and I’m a huge fan of hot cocoa. Within moderation! We reached the “all right already” stage three cold fronts back.</p> <p>I can’t hurry spring no mater how many seed catalogs and planting guides I look at, but what I can do is surround myself with PINK!!!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5WASTzuvgKd9eWgUTWddFdyEWrwzXvvkX9dQPGUsuyWMLcIsVcO9rFOMseWtXOkJw2jdQyhDgWI0YxCN5RRKa1yC0ltsts9fYeb7o5WDjNU1EHpyXA-NGN_UJw3f5PSj9nINoyFeqUI/s1600-h/IMG_0467%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0467" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0467" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-fgNk3ysNRjg/UvU8FkGL5VI/AAAAAAAADp0/8x_wKYKMNew/IMG_0467_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="326" height="440" /></a> </p> <p>A PINK tree in the dining room is all decked out for Valentine’s Day. It adds such a warm, happy glow to the house that I’m shaking off some of the cold weather “blahs” that have had me by the big toe. I’m still looking forward to warmer weather, but the PINK hearts and cherubs have put a smile on my face…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-MIx5a1XITxI/UvU8GGSJ5yI/AAAAAAAADqA/hLukEWVXEAo/s1600-h/IMG_0468%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0468" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0468" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ppa1WjPs_js/UvU8G6gPpuI/AAAAAAAADqI/i-cE-Oe7jwY/IMG_0468_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="323" height="436" /></a></p> <p>Vintage looking fans are nestled among the branches…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6J2eDAdIqac/UvU8HWA81AI/AAAAAAAADqQ/v2ON_ILTHr0/s1600-h/IMG_0469%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0469" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0469" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-TwGjp8I0SWQ/UvU8H2AAu0I/AAAAAAAADqY/cFAcFO4pHBk/IMG_0469_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="337" height="455" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Efnss5BdjgU/UvU8Iv81yPI/AAAAAAAADqg/wIz4XOtzQiw/s1600-h/IMG_0470%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0470" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0470" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tcyG4Afhiuo/UvU8JC_6iLI/AAAAAAAADqo/xasOSVSBujs/IMG_0470_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="350" height="473" /></a></p> <p>Now, isn’t that better? No wonder we all love PINK! <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a> is a genius for inventing this weekly celebration!!</p> <p>Then my collection of handmade Valentines was scattered on a lighted lace draped display cabinet.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-hE3PWnqoT-Q/UvU8JhVkDrI/AAAAAAAADqw/YN_6lf9n1BI/s1600-h/IMG_0471%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0471" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0471" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CqSHi-F8pTQ/UvU8KfLjGCI/AAAAAAAADq0/xnK2CEEu6HQ/IMG_0471_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="351" height="479" /></a></p> <p>Look at the beautiful details and all the PINK! But after all those colors and lights and all that shimmer, I have a hard time letting it all go. I could wait for take down until Epiphany like my mother used to do. But that’s just putting off the inevitable for a week. the house will seem so bland and plain. I could jump the gun and put out Vallentine’s Day and my card collection, but I’ve come up with an interim  holiday that suits my purposes…Chinese New Year!!!. It’s celebrated on January 31 this year so that will be perfect…<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pAxEeVVB5zA/Usd3pvXb94I/AAAAAAAADnU/LnE_ON_3s1o/s1600-h/IMG_0405%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_0405" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_0405" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7wGSjQ34iq4/Usd3qaz1P8I/AAAAAAAADnc/cPUWc8frkhA/IMG_0405_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="308" height="416" /></a></p> <p>The vintage ornament tree in the dining room is transformed…I got a dozen of these cute silk little Oriental monks from my sister-in-law many years ago. Texas schools open anywhere from mid-August to late August…by September, everyone already has a couple of weeks of classes behind them. I was listing  books for my Etsy shop when I found one titled, <u><strong>My School</strong></u>.  For Pink Saturday I’m sharing a children’s book from 1958 that reminds us of school days before standardized test became the focus and the measure of success.  </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-5XXPEVfVRbY/UiFbGEecwpI/AAAAAAAADjw/gdyXpTCdmgo/s1600-h/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520015%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 015" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 015" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-WWLZvu4DqE4/UiFbG5h9yRI/AAAAAAAADj4/9n89IsJ9jNY/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520015_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="453" height="399" /></a></p> <p>Look at those happy pink cheeks and that sweet smile… Now let’s look at his first day of school.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-PQLnEIL40_o/UiFbH1oqzQI/AAAAAAAADkA/8J3o4EpD7G8/s1600-h/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520018%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 018" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 018" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KEWGDkDG7JY/UiFbIaYp2VI/AAAAAAAADkI/N4_EA4DVTck/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520018_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="396" height="429" /></a></p> <p>A sit-down breakfast…then car pool. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-OrbVlep4uks/UiFbJHSbwMI/AAAAAAAADkQ/p5pyuKhFKFA/s1600-h/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520018%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img title="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 018" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 018" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CPN1OMj_Mrw/UiFbKVAfPMI/AAAAAAAADkY/-rpnsu8cPbw/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520018_thumb%25255B14%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="395" height="426" /></a></p> <p>And when he gets to school…</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-lociGuhy5Gs/UiFbLapWSEI/AAAAAAAADkg/_I15XFP6tkE/s1600-h/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520019%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 019" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Little Golden Books for Etsy 9 books 019" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-RVI08PPOyv8/UiFbMOQbFHI/AAAAAAAADko/Y0tQGQb_zrA/Little%252520Golden%252520Books%252520for%252520Etsy%2525209%252520books%252520019_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="333" height="407" /></a></p> <p>They PLAY! We make Itty Bitty Books! Our hostess, usually Mary Ann, posts an idea for a theme and invites us to create pages for a little book, usually about 3 inches by 3 and half inches. We send our pages, one for each person who is participating. Then the hostess collates and binds them.  So if 14 people are participating, we each make 14 pages. One of the projects for this summer is a Mermaid book with shaped pages rather than our usual rectangles. Sixteen people joined the fun for the Mermaid book. When I was working on ideas, I remembered that I  had a little box of iridescent shell-shaped “scales” from a mermaid’s tail!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-e04p_Ji2Dck/UhgOOl9DU9I/AAAAAAAADio/sWQmUebOzA8/s1600-h/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520015%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moon flowers and IBB pages 015" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="moon flowers and IBB pages 015" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-KHlDCgj_1B8/UhgOPofI9lI/AAAAAAAADiw/YQUxnLXoqN8/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520015_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="462" height="355" /></a></p> <p>She had become entangled in a fisherman’s net and as she made her escape, these scales from her sparkly tail were left behind… I used them to tell her tale. As I said, the pages are shaped…Mary Ann sent us each a die cut shell template and we cut our pages…  </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-jbOLP2nO2iU/UhgOQmC7AjI/AAAAAAAADi4/6M7Kp_w7fcQ/s1600-h/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520017%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moon flowers and IBB pages 017" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="moon flowers and IBB pages 017" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-RSBWTt4HtZw/UhgORcR9VgI/AAAAAAAADjA/eFXMCmhbbD0/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520017_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="468" height="393" /></a></p> <p>For each page I added a  piece of the net, a few sea shells, and shiny beads and the beautiful mermaid. These are some of the most embellished pages I have done. Each of the 16 pages for this swap is about the same with only slight differences..</p> <p>They were packaged up and sent to be bound with the creations of the 15 other Mermaid Book makers.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7ibVsQHhgJI/UhgOSZideNI/AAAAAAAADjI/CCsi_qXjMRI/s1600-h/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520016%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moon flowers and IBB pages 016" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="moon flowers and IBB pages 016" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-QjxlggvVrNI/UhgOTInJlsI/AAAAAAAADjQ/H_xV8UtZMwc/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520016_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="374" /></a></p> <p>Mary Ann will create  Covers and a Table of Contents to include as she binds the pages together. And in a couple of weeks, a fat little book will arrive in the mail.  I usually wait until after supper to open mine. My friend Nancy of <a href="http://mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">My Crafty little Page</a> fame is often a fellow IBB participant. When the books arrive, I pour myself a glass of wine and then I call her and we go through the book oooh-ing and aaah-ing over each page and looking at techniques and unusual embellishments. It’s a fun way to connect and visit as we enjoy the talents of our creative group.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uggwOB-Nfiw/UhgOUYo5UhI/AAAAAAAADjY/9rumNhXb4k0/s1600-h/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520019%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moon flowers and IBB pages 019" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="moon flowers and IBB pages 019" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-QfIabLoJaEg/UhgOVHyylDI/AAAAAAAADjg/ELj63HtKpqs/moon%252520flowers%252520and%252520IBB%252520pages%252520019_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="477" height="420" /></a></p> <p>There are lots of pink iridescent scales that put me in the mood for more Pink…so I’ll head to the Pink Saturday crowd at <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a>’s <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">How Sweet the Sound</a> . First I picked colors…greens, browns, blues and Pinks, of course.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-w5GmU923JU4/Udd74JZNJXI/AAAAAAAADhk/wHVrZ-XEGhk/s1600-h/TOMS%252520first%252520layer%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="TOMS first layer" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="TOMS first layer" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Mm5itl3Yj1Y/Udd74jZEHbI/AAAAAAAADhs/dFZZzj5Am0Q/TOMS%252520first%252520layer_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="326" height="440" /></a>   </p> <p>Fabric glue held the squares in place…I used permanent washable glue hoping that the repairs will last through the summer. My friend, Lally, had just finished a couple of quilts and pieces of her fabrics found themselves in the first layer.  Next I added vintage tiny velvet flowers, lace, and buttons. The second layer was sewn down with dental floss since that seems really strong and easy to sew with. Oops, a sentence ending with a preposition…oh, well, it’s summer…I tried to keep similar colors and sizes on both sides so they would still look like a pair.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-fwI7DGPm1HE/Udd75JOd57I/AAAAAAAADh4/6QmXmqdcGYc/s1600-h/TOMS%252520after%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="TOMS after" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="TOMS after" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-wscBEuOV7Vw/Udd75rMZnSI/AAAAAAAADiA/abN0LC4l5_k/TOMS%252520after_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="347" height="469" /></a></p> <p>How’s that for reclaimed TOMS ready for the trash can? My nieces just saw them and they were a hit! Now I’m wearing a pair of  resurrected shoes out in public instead of kicking them off at the back door.</p> <p>We’ll see how long they last, but hey, I have lots more glue and scads of buttons for the next layer…I hope the edges fray and soften a bit as time goes by. Well, that’s what I did on my summer vacation. Let’s head over to check in with <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a> at <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">How Sweet the Sound</a> to check out how here Pink Summer is going. </p> LaVernehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13117114953839200513noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2810989474074275542.post-52612559211173668762013-06-28T19:36:00.001-05:002013-06-28T19:48:59.787-05:00Pink Lilies Even in the Heat of Summer!<p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GlLlRCKVLXc/Uc4r42tU6mI/AAAAAAAADfI/-jjCCMGsULs/s1600-h/moonvine%252520and%252520lilies%252520010%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moonvine and lilies 010" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="moonvine and lilies 010" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-moTRRonZwcA/Uc4r5ZVoMYI/AAAAAAAADfQ/cJ8ir5DDwFA/moonvine%252520and%252520lilies%252520010_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="484" height="372" /></a></p> <p>Beautiful Crinum Lilies are the LAST thing you expect to see in Central Texas when the temperatures hit triple digits in the afternoon, but that’s exactly what I’m sharing for Pink Saturday…My friend Nancy at <a href="http://mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">My Crafty little Page</a> gave me a start from old heirloom lilies given to her by a neighbor.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ooV1DDolLqg/Uc4r5yX9ckI/AAAAAAAADfY/AONjsu7N9o8/s1600-h/moonvine%252520and%252520lilies%252520007%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="moonvine and lilies 007" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="moonvine and lilies 007" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GaF2i0yrkww/Uc4r6Slu73I/AAAAAAAADfg/aAOMLvq6Abw/moonvine%252520and%252520lilies%252520007_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="449" height="345" /></a></p> <p>They have a delicate pink inside and they look like a Georgia O’Keeffe painting. They can’t be handled much, just plopped into a vase of cool water. That sounds like a good summer plan for us all.   I hope your summer is enjoyable wherever your are. Here in Texas we enjoy our mornings and then seek the shade. Look at one of our does and her twins in the afternoon shade. The craftsman who made it is from Austin. She had the most amazing combinations, but I knew this would be right at home with the Opal Basil and the Polka Dot plant.  I may let it spend some time in the side yard with the Purple Coneflower which isn’t purple at all, but a wonderful, bright Pink.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-bI3qXWMg1-8/UbuMq2dQPHI/AAAAAAAADeY/mXyCCQ1XVek/s1600-h/July%252520Banners%252520and%252520pink%252520flowers%252520012%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="July Banners and pink flowers 012" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="July Banners and pink flowers 012" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-wQQmN6vt9lM/UbuMrK1jtEI/AAAAAAAADeg/EF7rR_TlM1I/July%252520Banners%252520and%252520pink%252520flowers%252520012_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="433" height="333" /></a></p> <p>They were in full sun when I took this shot and the color is a bit washed out, but would you just look at all those buds! The flowers last forever and the center turns orange as it matures. Then the little finches come to eat the seeds. The deer love the flower buds, but leave the full open flowers alone. These are behind a little fence and I spray them with deer repellant to make them less attractive to the does and the fawns.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-c2E5sTHOvoE/UbuMsHEwSyI/AAAAAAAADeo/nyxqf21L5-E/s1600-h/July%252520Banners%252520and%252520pink%252520flowers%252520011%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="July Banners and pink flowers 011" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="July Banners and pink flowers 011" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-8ooi0AO5ioA/UbuMspkitUI/AAAAAAAADes/RoDQ-qJLD-w/July%252520Banners%252520and%252520pink%252520flowers%252520011_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="355" /></a></p> <p> I’m heading out for a Margarita, some queso, and a fish taco in our favorite cantina on the banks of the Guadalupe River. There are at least four in the nest now. It wasn’t easy to get this shot, and the color is not perfect because in reality  they are pale pink.</p> <p>We have the sweetest little bird couple who construct their little nest on our front porch. This is the fourth nest to have been built on our hanging lanterns! They make a little round nest of mud and grass with a bowl shape in the center. On year they raised five little ones in less space than an average tea cup!<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-05EqqywO-vc/UbKOFL3VFtI/AAAAAAAADcM/61bAkFPPPAc/s1600-h/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520051%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="bird nest and flowers 051" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="bird nest and flowers 051" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-QbA0mqtNrOU/UbKOFtzy8KI/AAAAAAAADcU/XY8Vzd2dxPo/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520051_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="476" height="366" /></a></p> <p>This year she decorated it with parts of flowers from a nearby St. John’s Wort shrub…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-avepM-nLNcQ/UbKOGZ1j6VI/AAAAAAAADcc/wWKyIqcaKcA/s1600-h/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520041%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="bird nest and flowers 041" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="bird nest and flowers 041" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-G6IxiQ6el2U/UbKOGgb5asI/AAAAAAAADck/VvxCVB8vTLE/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520041_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="501" height="385" /></a></p> <p>See the stringy parts? well, that’s what she used to line the top outside layer of her little mud nest…</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pcY06tnFHsg/UbKOHnU0e8I/AAAAAAAADcs/nSKwcfoQ6Lo/s1600-h/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520048%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="bird nest and flowers 048" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="bird nest and flowers 048" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-hEEsMnPuVRo/UbKOIH35DgI/AAAAAAAADcw/a0V7BVsnfPo/bird%252520nest%252520and%252520flowers%252520048_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="514" height="395" /></a></p> <p>Have you ever seen such a thing? Not really “vintage” in the true meaning of the word, but vintage because they’re like the old cardboard cartons of yesteryear…first, I had to FIND the 3 X 4 row size I wanted…<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-p54Fxl_jdZg/USg0-vU2HgI/AAAAAAAADUU/vNzA4er7QCA/s1600-h/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520001%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="easter egg swap 001" border="0" height="356" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-u-DJaSP4e8A/USg0_zkJTUI/AAAAAAAADUc/G-fltSZG3CI/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520001_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="easter egg swap 001" width="463" /></a><br />
ETSY to the rescue! Just what I wanted for my partner, Louisiana girl, Tonya. She is also an English teacher! She has had a pen-pal in France since she was in middle school and loves everything related to Paris and France! We decided to swap Easter in Paris…her favorite colors are reds and browns…mine are soft greens and blues.<br />
First I covered the carton with a coat of gesso. Then I decopagued layers of a beautiful napkin in her chosen colors…<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2piU6ASdFx2mArmJzDfdkE4RQOL4SUqA1NeJ-kWayMq2dzeqixtQ6FiBn0OzYA_bXQ6Nyg6szhiKYBw5Jy_IDSqAySqEyH2imXNiT0Tfnk2N8DIcKQZG1aN35MyklDLigo2oB0qTclIE/s1600-h/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520012%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="easter egg swap 012" border="0" height="361" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-HrKJ6IQNBPI/USg1CHkCmQI/AAAAAAAADUs/t-DV-bSLKo0/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520012_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="easter egg swap 012" width="434" /></a><br />
<br />
A bright red tassel and a gilded knob tops the lid and another layer of designs highlight the bottom…<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-V6eW_GvtFv8/USg1C6N9BKI/AAAAAAAADU0/QSzgIgdY-TY/s1600-h/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520014%25255B14%25255D.jpg"><img alt="easter egg swap 014" border="0" height="378" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tIhrodvxHbY/USg1DtZVyjI/AAAAAAAADU8/6skvfk42f_c/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520014_thumb%25255B13%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="easter egg swap 014" width="476" /></a><br />

using vintage sheet music and dictionaries and beautiful papers I cut crowns and birds and butterflies and tea pots and tea cups…I would love to get a package like this.<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_e5Iejm0Iq8/USg1Rswz1uI/AAAAAAAADXU/yy1r60oJMEs/s1600-h/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520036%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="easter egg swap 036" border="0" height="387" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-EJkSIh97oj8/USg1SXrZ1nI/AAAAAAAADXc/_cSSxpAj7Vg/easter%252520egg%252520swap%252520036_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="easter egg swap 036" width="504" /></a><br />
I filled the egg carton and the rest of the contents spilled out into the box…rolls of ephemera…a 1900’s ledger sheet, a French newspaper from the 1920’s, pages from an antique French grammar book. A few antique Easter cards, seam binding, some beautiful Victorian Easter scrap. And I tucked in a few containers of that beautiful Martha Stewart fine glitter in reds and golds and browns. <br />
I love swaps…a little imagination, a few vintage finds, and someone else’s perspective on a common theme. The swap was organized by my Paper Cowgirl friend, Sarah. Talk about a talent; she and I have been swap partners before, and she knows how to fill a carton! Next week will be super exciting as I wait for Tonya’s package to arrive. In the meantime, I’ll head over to <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a>’s <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">How Sweet the Sound</a> blog for Pink Saturday and all the lovely posts. It’s the first celebration of the new year…it’s a signal that spring is near…This year I had a new sparkling wreath that I won at a luncheon the week end before the 14th. Just perfect for the front door!  But the best Valentines are inside…</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-mmbCvEjGWkc/UR--4ZDQA6I/AAAAAAAADRg/KS9RdyGmW4w/s1600-h/valentines-2013-swirly-tree-0034.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 swirly tree 003" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 swirly tree 003" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-PTVAN80fkVA/UR--42EeXDI/AAAAAAAADRo/FXhOaXm0lQI/valentines-2013-swirly-tree-003_thum.jpg?imgmax=800" width="448" height="344" /></a></p> <p>Valentines hand made by my Pink Saturday friends in <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a>’s Circle of Friends Journal group…we’ve grown pretty close during our journaling for each other and Nancy had the idea that we make Valentines to swap among the group. What fun it has been…the first one to arrive was Nancy’s cute Scottie card.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNjFKQWP46Q8bJXaUdCtE6sAOdvHhEhullb7qAJJby6Fs46hku1hdqIUTSGC8-ixuCiQtPsBXQXnJZAw4EhrSR0jp0psUqomV1cuMiQ-GSQfQ6tFQSF7UiY6p9v7oFStNe3K4jHWE6MPI/s1600-h/valentines-2013-0357.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 035" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 035" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-NXoKojyeyXM/UR--6mk8c8I/AAAAAAAADR4/AarDC7aVvHM/valentines-2013-035_thumb4.jpg?imgmax=800" width="443" height="341" /></a></p> <p>the vintage “To My Valentine” arrow just really sets it off! It went right on my swirly tree…Her card was joined by one from Shelia…a cute little girl just as sweet as she is.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-z_aZJHqTmQs/UR--7e0M39I/AAAAAAAADSA/nTFtvYJ5RWc/s1600-h/valentines-2013-swirly-tree-0054.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 swirly tree 005" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 swirly tree 005" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-COf5FBJqS9w/UR--8A9s4lI/AAAAAAAADSI/JnXEi3v_jRg/valentines-2013-swirly-tree-005_thum.jpg?imgmax=800" width="458" height="397" /></a></p> <p>Look at all the details and the cute birds! Right to the top of the tree it went! During the week Dana and The Stone Rabbit set a darling card with a real key on it!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-A0F5K9wXrzE/UR--9e9_KbI/AAAAAAAADSQ/jcM0RXLtLt4/s1600-h/valentines-2013-0374.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 037" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 037" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-v2Z8YcEeQk8/UR--944-hvI/AAAAAAAADSY/qeIVXyTF9xI/valentines-2013-037_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="465" height="405" /></a></p> <p>Aren’t my blog buddies just the most clever people ever?  Two days later two more cards came…Jeanne’s with lots of vintage elements…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-g8iTqKpHb4s/UR--_LRvoEI/AAAAAAAADSk/XY-IJddbrQI/s1600-h/valentines-2013-0499.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 049" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 049" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-yUY-t_L50ko/UR--_vB5N_I/AAAAAAAADSs/W0Q7VPmCIjw/valentines-2013-049_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="421" height="327" /></a></p> <p>and a perfect sentiment, “Enjoy the simple things of life” Her card is anything but simple! That wasn’t all;  in the same day’s mail, I found Beverly’s beautiful card with original art work! Now I can cut and paste for days on end, but original artwork? No, Beverly’s card is in a class of its own, layers of detailed paper and a cute necklace on her pretty lady!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-SgM0IamJ5G8/UR-_AkURouI/AAAAAAAADS0/Ed4iWcEVJd0/s1600-h/valentines-2013-0454.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 045" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 045" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-VlxdXfj3NIo/UR-_Bqt-Z5I/AAAAAAAADS8/F77Wn6uGkhk/valentines-2013-045_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="367" /></a> Did anyone know she could draw? I can’t thank her enough for sharing her talent! </p> <p>Within another day or two, Kathy’s card with its handmade teabag arrived! As usual, her work is so rich with details that you keep discovering details!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3RQzhF2vctE/UR-_CmKeLzI/AAAAAAAADTE/JpjK4QFA6uA/s1600-h/valentines-2013-0404.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 040" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 040" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-tA6opqJbqTI/UR-_DRZhVtI/AAAAAAAADTM/A3sECIi5xF0/valentines-2013-040_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="501" height="437" /></a></p> <p>There is a little verse about tea inside the tag and a handmade cup cutout. Artistic talent and poetry in one package.  This has been so much fun to participate with the group and I love displaying the group’s creations on my swirly tree.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Zr2p-PcDRgc/UR-_Em3IxNI/AAAAAAAADTU/1xzYQi_ZR1s/s1600-h/valentines-2013-swirly-tree-00311.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="valentines 2013 swirly tree 003" border="0" alt="valentines 2013 swirly tree 003" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrw8vt91tfy4OJYCYZnNVCHt78Giltv-ylQmeBa8H9Ixfhx6kLJeBZZqP5ZobzMDpksNcYFjTVFQQx-BE8xTQNhzZ_dEHUZ9h2KDA0Jgzh5EoXbcTil6wVtt-Z-hspU3hyodoOlMXvv3g/?imgmax=800" width="471" height="372" /></a></p> <p>Before they are packed up at the end of the month, I’ll make a mug of hot chocolate and sit savoring the beauty of each one. I’m still watching for Grace’s to arrive and then the circle will be complete. I cannot thank everyone enough for sharing their talents and hats off to Nancy for creating the group and organizing us.   I’mm off to Beverly’s <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html"><a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">How Sweet The Sound <a title="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/" href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/</a></a></a> to see who is posting today.</p> LaVernehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13117114953839200513noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2810989474074275542.post-80580855298184320952013-01-18T21:54:00.001-06:002013-01-18T21:54:20.662-06:00Happy 70th Birthday, Janis!!!<p>That’s right Janis Joplin would have turned 70 on January 19th!!!!   Can you even believe it?</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-OJjw0sWxfos/UPoY29C4JbI/AAAAAAAADPg/JX7_Hpywb_o/s1600-h/Janis%252520Joplin-2%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="PRZ-001391" border="0" alt="PRZ-001391" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-I7T44I1GHUk/UPoY3W1bDMI/AAAAAAAADPo/dFTOGC-rYHE/Janis%252520Joplin-2_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="331" height="420" /></a></p> <p>Her version of  “Bobby McGee” is still the anthem of the Woodstock generation…There was no one like her…no voice like hers…no connection like hers…never will be. </p> <p>Look at this wonderful picture of her laughing and happy in her wild Peter Max style Porsche. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Vo7LOjZ26-Q/UPoY3017qLI/AAAAAAAADPw/r84qG3eCU9s/s1600-h/janisjoplin_fur%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="janisjoplin_fur" border="0" alt="janisjoplin_fur" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-qOt5q26qLEY/UPoY4k9olEI/AAAAAAAADP4/ZYHmyCHJFwM/janisjoplin_fur_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="300" height="386" /></a></p> <p>I used this picture for our Itty Bitty Book club Mod Generation project and I found myself singing “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” the whole time I was working on the pages. While I’ve been out of touch, I have not been idle. One of my projects was this altered book that I repurposed. I layered pearls, shells, and old jewelry pieces on the front. The young buds are pale pink when they first appear. This year Hubby and I decided it was too hot to fire up the grill so  our hot dogs came from Sonic…New York style…almost like being in Yankee Stadium…and we watched our fireworks in air-conditioned comfort with Regis live from NYC…It’s nothing like the old days of watching our downtown parade then setting up tables and picnicking down on the river followed by blankets in the park to watch fireworks. While I might miss those past celebrations, I did not miss the heat, and I did not mind doing without the mosquitoes. Instead I focused on packing up the latest creation in our ten-stop Circle of Friends journals. It was my turn to work in Kathy’s “Of Seeds and Stars” journal during June. It’s funny because she was creating an amazing pair of pages for my “Gift From the Sea”. She used  one of her own poems and it couldn’t be more special. You can check it out here. <a href="http://thewritersreverie.blogspot.com/2012/06/random-journal-entry-seaside-muse.html">http://thewritersreverie.blogspot.com/2012/06/random-journal-entry-seaside-muse.html</a></p> <p>My pages for her included poetry…not my own… and lots of garden images to answer her call for inspiration as it comes like God-given seeds. True to my vow to use stuff from my exiting stashes, I found a lovely hymn about finding joy in a garden…I added a lovely lass ready to tend her own garden… <img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="circle journal june kathy 010" border="0" alt="circle journal june kathy 010" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvNiX_8iOd4KvXgAaQOYaA8pS22ktnfntfzYBVd87C9zwbu9NZctzJ71BdQKrjF51RYdSLQQbXzhW7IFGxhKeHwqVKCaCFQ_oM7wpo8oNud0sEWjOoiXmBHZnMfzvXxfy6zA98SXI5ZWc/?imgmax=800" width="411" height="453" /></p> <p>The back side is a seed package…</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNDo0MUm9z6PirkazwCX9V9iw6jjs8NEOVQJPqfRUkiD2Fobn6Z0DudBiRCxHQw2p0BJbrzMwHiepa-WQuSGVHxNhyptkTLHJ6Mdx6rn8NQwomjiePMLC-zMuSF0GKm0OGcF644oTv_j8/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520013%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="circle journal june kathy 013" border="0" alt="circle journal june kathy 013" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-x2JstR16P7A/T_dcbePPmeI/AAAAAAAADKU/_lfpCHhxmcs/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520013_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="429" height="296" /></a></p> <p>alongside is a bookmark with a perfect quotation from Robert Louis Stevenson…I added a couple  of  additional quotations.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-EZpf0g6Q7iE/T_dccEUxKWI/AAAAAAAADKc/H7A2OQuJ3gw/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520002%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="circle journal june kathy 002" border="0" alt="circle journal june kathy 002" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-H-icdj0csdk/T_dcctvuQ9I/AAAAAAAADKk/o0xg7Tof0us/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520002_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="474" height="364" /></a></p> <p>One is from Victor Hugo and the other is the sweet poem about the nearness of God in a garden.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpyNm-gYGG7zKuhtOgnexDzGTrK_p9up0TlNF0qf-XxVyjPXNUwur3UKUhQSd9QaEtgSIIy9fMU9tGnQF-m6_XKxrgZoHquHZh4YSXeTNDe_82LVfZ-5lG9FPRnbSqwsrLoQqRD1CaCJs/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520004%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="circle journal june kathy 004" border="0" alt="circle journal june kathy 004" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7U94Fn0OTrw/T_dceIpTZVI/AAAAAAAADK0/7a4sZ3mX9vw/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520004_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="374" /></a></p> <p>They are held together with a ring and a group of garden charms that I have been holding onto for years waiting for the perfect use…well, if this is not the perfect use, I don’t what is! </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/--x3JSwi0X2w/T_dce_usVZI/AAAAAAAADK8/hm_FXLlhOHE/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520006%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="circle journal june kathy 006" border="0" alt="circle journal june kathy 006" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-IWQSV5uIC-E/T_dcfabM20I/AAAAAAAADLE/pS0Y9eP9sV4/circle%252520journal%252520june%252520kathy%252520006_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="498" height="383" /></a></p> <p>To hold the tags and cards, I made a pair of pockets from recycled and reclaimed fabric scraps and papers layered and sewn together to create a new bonded fabric with seed pearls and vintage velvet leaves and topped with lilac braid. She loved Myrtles and I love thinking of her as I tend them. Spring rains got the coneflower off to a strong start. So far the deer have left them alone and they are filling this bed with happy Pink. It’s my Pink side of the yard.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ml65KWyS8mA/T9vm8pnwSPI/AAAAAAAADIM/wYYmPOj4Gq4/s1600-h/baby%252520birds%252520009%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="baby birds 009" border="0" alt="baby birds 009" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-x8-BlnSGNJc/T9vm9fIBjaI/AAAAAAAADIU/JrXJDNcHO4o/baby%252520birds%252520009_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="436" height="335" /></a> Follow me from the side lawn to the front porch where a pair of Phoebes have set up housekeeping.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-CAwVWAqyxRM/T9vm-LJJ7VI/AAAAAAAADIc/x3yFWVogFDY/s1600-h/Baby%252520Birds%252520009%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Baby Birds 009" border="0" alt="Baby Birds 009" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ucvX_3btigI/T9vm-R3jAuI/AAAAAAAADIk/4EJTahZjoeM/Baby%252520Birds%252520009_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="448" height="361" /></a></p> <p>I think this is the mother bird at the nest. It’s about the size of a small cereal bowl. It’s made of mud and fibers and hubby says it’s lined with fluffy fur or dryer lint.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Le4F0NSjD1A/T9vm-2BeR_I/AAAAAAAADIs/QHyi8HPXYgc/s1600-h/Baby%252520Birds%252520005%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Baby Birds 005" border="0" alt="Baby Birds 005" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-aMWBgA0aOAU/T9vm_Uj7kDI/AAAAAAAADI0/Tu7BnKhbHPw/Baby%252520Birds%252520005_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="464" height="406" /></a> It’s not a pretty nest…sort of ugly like the proverbial “mud fence” and it’s tiny for the four little birdies. We were just sure they would fledge today based on the wing stretching and flapping that has been going on for the last two or three days, but this evening they have settled in for another night. We have marveled at what good providers the parent birds are. They keep watch from the flower bed or a nearby small tree.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Tqq7DvNIoV4/T9vm_-1mZvI/AAAAAAAADI8/wSe9UauKdkA/s1600-h/Baby%252520Birds%252520012%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Baby Birds 012" border="0" alt="Baby Birds 012" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-qKupAK0DaJY/T9vnAj8KVqI/AAAAAAAADJE/Ur7fcZreH0E/Baby%252520Birds%252520012_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="360" height="489" /></a></p> <p>They hunt insects and feed and groom the lucky little ones all day long.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1QntEzPHnSr-WMe9JzCMPzSatK0sg5gQocMzd8zCCCTbqPo3JcIIJybgIQdjQFcgTaggzOkdawalYaBvmY6VL7NM3_6DX_kGZADdkxhrF6RMiHTYmulO2P397xczlHVn5qg-CJTdAvT4/s1600-h/Baby%252520Birds%252520002%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Baby Birds 002" border="0" alt="Baby Birds 002" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sWnjYPPp7CQ/T9vnCENGV5I/AAAAAAAADJU/ZzmNDWd6FSo/Baby%252520Birds%252520002_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="386" height="373" /></a></p> <p>We will spend Father’s Day weekend watching the Leap of Faith as they leave the safety of the nest. But they will do what little birds do every spring. They will hop over the side and take wing. This has been such a safe spot for the nestlings, but we are holding out faith that it will be a good spot for fledglings. One of my favorite hymns is “<strong><em>His Eye Is On the Sparrow</em></strong>” and I’ll probably be humming it all weekend. Speaking of the weekend, let’s go see who <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a> has gathered for us to visit this holiday Saturday at <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">how Sweet the Sound</a>. Today we are mailing out the current month’s pages. I went to the post office this afternoon with a very special package… Grace’s Circle of Friends journal. You probably know Grace from her blog Pink in the City. <a href="http://graceinthepinkcity.blogspot.com/" title="http://graceinthepinkcity.blogspot.com/">http://graceinthepinkcity.blogspot.com/</a> Grace picked Marie Antoinette in Paris for her theme. the first three journal artists have done amazing jobs. Nancy, <a href="http://mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">My Crafty Little Page</a>, did the pages just before mine and she had created a wonderful glittery carriage for Marie. Using that carriage as my inspiration, I took Marie on a shopping trip through the streets of Paris.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-brhT_pAxUVs/T8lwlmyEZ_I/AAAAAAAADGI/OiXp6E1vJb8/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520marie%252520paris%252520002%25255B14%25255D.jpg"><img alt="circle journal marie paris 002" border="0" height="388" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-c8UzBF6QsUE/T8lwmM8LirI/AAAAAAAADGQ/mWI8SoCfED0/circle%252520journal%252520marie%252520paris%252520002_thumb%25255B15%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="circle journal marie paris 002" width="487" /></a><br />
The vintage map of Paris was the first layer on the background. Then a second layer was a pocket collaged with fabric samples and ribbon roses satin trim and a dress form and a couple of images of shoes and gowns Marie had her eye on. The fabric and trim actually came from my big first-time-ever trip to Grace’s city…New Your City! The layers of fabric and pictures were stitched down beneath ivory tulle. <br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-fPFsTmpMI0I/T8lwnYykyQI/AAAAAAAADGY/FwxRajEESSc/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520marie%252520paris%252520003%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img alt="circle journal marie paris 003" border="0" height="356" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-g2numOtTGWc/T8lwn7l9RkI/AAAAAAAADGg/hWGETbwzdcQ/circle%252520journal%252520marie%252520paris%252520003_thumb%25255B13%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="circle journal marie paris 003" width="451" /></a><br />
The right side page has a picture of Marie as a young girl and no tribute to Mare would be complete without CAKE! There’s a gold fleur de lis, a velvet flower, and a leaf from Tinsel Trading Company in NYC. I made tags for the pockets… Each one has vintage sheet music and<br />

of course, the map of Paris.<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-v3cMnt292DQ/T8lwqtl2waI/AAAAAAAADG4/w-bx4eyuy7k/s1600-h/circle%252520journal%252520marie%252520paris%252520015%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="circle journal marie paris 015" border="0" height="385" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RXhSSfFXtc86WsfdxWEnI401iMwnF5MmZ631OTzet8nAlp5OZtIpHnlz3wxkpn7Kojfg7Xgc_QKylLQpqp-dhcvyAf_DTOs6d3IjmayFF7Rbpid7JkoMMYMneTwPrgpBO4ZWNUhyphenhyphenWYI/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="circle journal marie paris 015" width="501" /></a><br />

There is a legend about a breed of cats in Maine, here in America that are said to be the offspring of her cats. Look up Marie’s cats to read the whole improbable tale. I doubt that Marie planned an escape to America,(especially a plan that included six of her favorite cats being sent on ahead of her.) but it makes for a fun feline addition to Grace’s journal…I don’t know if Marie dressed her cats in party attire, but it sounds like something she might have done. <br />

I’ll be spending part of my Pink Saturday watching our favorite team, the San Antonio Spurs in the National Championship play offs…Wish us luck! We love our Spurs! Let’s have a Big Pink Birthday Celebration in NYC!<p>I just got back from a trip to The Big Apple last week and I’m ready to head back today! Wouldn’t it be the perfect way to celebrate <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a>’s fourth Pink Saturday birthday with a trip? I know just the perfect ride…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-wF1RwIkK__g/T7_w0milHiI/AAAAAAAADD0/6omUTSoKxBs/s1600-h/Circle%252520Journal%252520and%252520New%252520York%252520City%2525202012%252520343%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Circle Journal and New York City 2012 343" border="0" alt="Circle Journal and New York City 2012 343" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-5ZaxNWu3CSM/T7_w1fyABdI/AAAAAAAADD8/_uvWoZS4PXw/Circle%252520Journal%252520and%252520New%252520York%252520City%2525202012%252520343_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="462" height="355" /></a></p> <p>That’s right; it’s a bright Pink stretch limo Mini Cooper! We could all pile in and wave from the sunroof just like the Sex in the City girls! One of our first stops would have to be one of my favorite paper shops…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-kr-84QkHNCg/T7_w2AcHg5I/AAAAAAAADEE/dh3U376phas/s1600-h/013%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="013" border="0" alt="013" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-4HSNDQU0a-k/T7_w2uAkGRI/AAAAAAAADEM/KmKIZJHqLew/013_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="406" height="317" /></a></p> <p>The shop is all decked out for spring in shades of Pink…And the window of the Grand Central Station shop sported this mannequin wearing a paper dress!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4aQJ3NQiogI/T7_w3WXY3KI/AAAAAAAADEU/qahRB-6zZmk/s1600-h/010%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="010" border="0" alt="010" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JEZj71x-iyo/T7_w36AQ9WI/AAAAAAAADEc/mvMKGH__gxM/010_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="345" height="332" /></a></p> <p>I found a vintage looking map of Paris poster to use in Grace’s Circle of Friends journal. So I had my Pink Saturday ladies in mind while I was shopping.</p> <p>Next stop would probably be for Chocolates at Teuscher’s  on Fifth Avenue by Radio City.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-KeVAc38yquM/T7_w4jPT5tI/AAAAAAAADEk/qDaAdjne_8U/s1600-h/Phone%252520photos%252520132%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 132" border="0" alt="Phone photos 132" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-z2lfRpiNVuM/T7_w5ZM9BoI/AAAAAAAADEs/LpnP8rVScFU/Phone%252520photos%252520132_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" height="476" /></a></p> <p>It is one of the most Pink shops anywhere. And the chocolates are in a class of their own! We could break the bank in there…</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDmRuhFobh2UicKdh6yfdl1kr8Mn-JZrxwSVZHve31Oas4Kj-Gc7pPuQzHYpFFc3mmhyphenhyphenye3tJRW0xS8oUCfUI0gEMw3fsCjdh5qJlyWnXmMK7_2C5fbb1EZOG42mOpF-9JE2VWXUNBYiY/s1600-h/Phone%252520photos%252520129%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 129" border="0" alt="Phone photos 129" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7jepSSKFW8o/T7_w7JHZ3II/AAAAAAAADE8/CA6G411RpSc/Phone%252520photos%252520129_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="405" height="372" /></a></p> <p>But no birthday party would be complete without candy! And flowers…we could stop in at the corner market and while we’re here at Klein’s, let’s pick up a bottle of wine!  </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Z8eIYHkRK-c/T7_w75QdI8I/AAAAAAAADFE/E681JVFg9OQ/s1600-h/Phone%252520photos%252520186%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 186" border="0" alt="Phone photos 186" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-S7x9qqJShz4/T7_w8eIgXxI/AAAAAAAADFM/7t4zsyTifdg/Phone%252520photos%252520186_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="427" height="491" /></a></p> <p>It would be the ultimate Pink Saturday girlfriends trip! Well, I’ll be enjoying the weekend at home watching the Indy 500 and listening to <em><strong>Back Home again in Indiana</strong></em> as only Jim Nabors can sing it. Monday we will pause to remember the meaning of Memorial Day. Right now, I’m off to visit <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/pink-saturdays-3rd-birthday-may-28-2011.html">How Sweet the Sound</a> to see the list of posts for this special Pink Saturday.</p> LaVernehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13117114953839200513noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2810989474074275542.post-13449053305305182902012-05-18T18:35:00.001-05:002012-05-18T18:35:48.738-05:00Happy Anniversary Pink Saturday!<p>What a milestone! And how quickly the days have added up! Today I’m sharing pinks from a candy shop in New York City. It was my first trip to NYC and I was like, what else?, a kid in a candy store! </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbmeTQGqa1Bo64oB99-7MvcBC0WoFoe9dMYAu7ii-HdhvMBjma9nck6HEIjWds99k2goheocOfwvQZ64M9pepyHzSQQaetB3AKVPQXerzCPwBewBba9bfsbxR9Fq1aWHHJXwdVch2nJ6g/s1600-h/Phone-photos-1324.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 132" border="0" alt="Phone photos 132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUD3EW1rqoXBqQK5wiMn9R7bibIlkrNwy9ip6grkJNPT7o8CFK0zQH323g-5GCr0YtQ2i_xFeZYTiC_LQdaQycRv20hwBl1UuTsAxIzqUp9B4S2yjUV75bA3QMdrIM_fcxKLQm1tvzFLk/?imgmax=800" width="310" height="419" /></a></p> <p>It was all decked out for Mother’s Day and the entire shop was festooned with pink flower garlands.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-RgW8mw_TTs4/T7bcitUWkOI/AAAAAAAADBA/fluBLxxANrg/s1600-h/Phone-photos-1284.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 128" border="0" alt="Phone photos 128" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-tbL2aPi4Yp8/T7bcjQpTRbI/AAAAAAAADBI/jup7-rGYZPA/Phone-photos-128_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="315" height="426" /></a></p> <p>See what I mean?</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-xQT7HvjNSk0/T7bcj9fG_MI/AAAAAAAADBQ/I6X9Am-1_Uo/s1600-h/Phone-photos-1314.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 131" border="0" alt="Phone photos 131" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-A0uShOBKDCE/T7bckfWCYbI/AAAAAAAADBY/Hs5ioQQneBA/Phone-photos-131_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="308" height="416" /></a></p> <p>The staging and packaging made the chocolates irresistible…I bought an assortment after I had snapped pictures of every window and every display.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jvUQZgSxlro/T7bclPx6SJI/AAAAAAAADBg/gCy8hFkJlSY/s1600-h/Phone-photos-1304.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 130" border="0" alt="Phone photos 130" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-YIBZR2RHF_A/T7bclpi4e8I/AAAAAAAADBo/CrKz244M-ck/Phone-photos-130_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="353" height="357" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-5lJ4X17Xzxg/T7bcn_RmzcI/AAAAAAAADBw/SdTZwnfY5QQ/s1600-h/Phone-photos-1295.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Phone photos 129" border="0" alt="Phone photos 129" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-gcSNE10Gvl4/T7bcoq7dd1I/AAAAAAAADB4/BdtDTKSjPT4/Phone-photos-129_thumb6.jpg?imgmax=800" width="400" height="440" /></a></p> <p>Wish the smell could come through the Internet connection…your mouth would be watering about now!</p> <p>Before I left for my big NYC adventure I did finish two pages for Dana’s(The stone Rabbit)  Circle Journal…and of course, the pages included plenty of pink. I even found a notepad from Missouri, Dana’s home state, and added the Show-Me state’s map to one of the cards. Dana’s blog was one of the first that I started following back in the early days of Pink Saturday.    What a perfect way to celebrate <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/">Beverly</a>’s 4th Anniversary!
