Pink Poodle Saturday

Today I have a short post…it’s all about a thrift store find from before Christmas. I bought a big bag of sewing notions mainly for the buttons. Well, would you just look at the treasure I found inside…

chinese new year can 4 010

Yep! It’s a pink plush and felt poodle!…Made  by a firm named Land o’ Lace here in the U.S.A. …it was a sold in a store where they hand printed the price…no bar codes here. Probably from a fabric store where they sold patterns and yard goods and sewing supplies and not much else. If you also needed milk and anti-freeze you had to make two more stops on your way home. I love convenience, but, boy howdy, do I miss the specialty  shops and the old five and dime stores.

chinese new year can 4 011  At a dollar forty-nine it must have been a luxury item…there is a zip code in the firm’s address so it dates no earlier than 1963 or so…and it had adhesive so it could be pressed on…I have no idea when that convenience became available…

We’ll have to ask someone who sews more than me or someone with functioning memory banks…someone like Sue at http://collectintexasgal.blogspot.com/ You must stop in to see her today…she’s got a birthday bash planned and she’s having a giveaway to celebrate. Say Hi from me, and then be sure to check in with Beverly to see who’s sharing Pink today. http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/

It’s cold and rainy here in central Texas today so we all need a healthy dose of PINK…thanks to Beverly for giving us just what we need…

Hey Laverne, Been missing chatting with you. The little poodle is something else isn't it. Truly looks what we would found all around the dime stores in the '50's. Thanks for sharing, Mollye

Laverne ~ Your pink poodle is priceless! You can't find those anymore. You should put it on a skirt. Have a wonderful Pink Saturday.

Gosh, Laverne what a fun find! I found one that was crocheted and was a bar of soap cover. I'd forgotten about it until I saw yours today. I gotta go find that cute thingy. One of my favorite places to shop is the Five and Dime store in Fredricksburg. It's just like the good ole days. Thanks for the 'ShoutOut' today and the the 'MemoryBank'Plug! Somedays I wonder!!!

Happy Pink Saturday, LaVerne!

I do believe you found a Pink Treasure in that sweet poodle! I agree with you, I miss the days of the specialty shops and five and dimes. Sadly, along with their demise are also so many wonderful little boutiques and antique stores. In this economy, they find it hard to compete against the big guys. Heck, the big guys are having a hard time, too!

I hope you are having a great Pink Sat.. Tell you pal Nancy I said Howdy! :) Dana

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
