was the title of a crafting article in Woman’s Day magazine. It must be from the early 70’s or even the late 60’s…back in the days before we used words like “recycle” or “upcycle”…back in the days when WD probably cost about a quarter. Today I want to share both the original article and a set of ornaments…survivors from that Christmas project I did with my mother so many years ago. First the article…
Can you believe I still have it?…well, those who know me aren’t surprised…for my 16th birthday, I asked for a filing cabinet. That’s right, a filing cabinet…and I got one!…government auction 4-drawer metal job that weighs a ton!…My father believed in substance and heavy-duty Army issue quality… All through high school and college, I faithfully filed ideas and articles filled with projects and party decorations…once in a while I go on a spring cleaning rampage and throw away scads of stuff…but this article remains. It holds too many memories…Mother and me gathering beads and trims and such. We made several dozen of these…and like the article and file cabinet, I still have a few…
Those were the days before Hobby Lobby and Crafts Etc….We only had Woolworth’s and our local 5 and 10 cent store, Handshaw’s…so the beads probably came from a broken necklace and the little angel was probably a cupcake topper… and the glass balls were certainly made in the USA…
Needless to say, they fall easily into the vintage category…by now they’re almost 40 years old!
I think I may just make some more…with all the supplies in stores these days, I should be able to make some really fine ones…speaking of “fine ones”…stop in to visit Nancy who is getting ready to have her home on the Christmas Historic Homes tour . She has her hands full about now, but her blog is such a treat to visit…this week it may be the Hysterical Home Tour…LOL… http://www.mycraftylittlepage.blogspot.com/ and check in with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound to see who’s posting this happy holiday… I plan to visit Miz Mollye and thank her for a giveaway I won. http://mizmollye.blogspot.com/ Have a fabulous Pink Week…I’ll make my rounds after I get back from Pflugerville and Nancy’s Historic Home.
