Pink Saturday Already?

Wow! This week has flown by…It’s Wimberley Trade Day again so I’ll have to visit the blogs on Sunday…But don’t let that stop you from joining the party without me…sniff, sniff…Beverly has the list ready for you…http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

I’m getting into the October mood with some Halloween decorations and something new this year…corsages…well, how sweet, you’re probably thinking and you’d be right…sorta right…these corsages take their inspiration from Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations…and Catrina dolls. Catrina dolls are skeletons often wearing Victorian clothing and taking part in life’s activities.

Catrina Halloween Corsages 001

Here’s one in a Tree of Life…notice her bright festive pink…

Catrina Halloween Corsages 003

You can see by the flowers and happy colors that it is a joyful celebration.

When we were in Ruidoso last month, we girls decorated Halloween bags and I added a series of Fall Catrinas to mine. They were so fun and added such an unexpected  playful touch to a traditional Trick or Treat tote…

Ruidoso 2009 085

I tried to capture the same fun with a series of corsages …the picture quality is the worst…wish I had taken them earlier when I could have used natural light.

Catrina Halloween Corsages 013

I started with a small skeleton, gave her a lace shawl, a sweet pink heart, a skirt of pink fall foliage, and a headdress to make Frieda Kohlo jealous. I wanted her to be Pretty in Pink…They really are fun and festive, (You’ll have to take my word for it.) but my pictures make the poor ladies look ghoulish…

Catrina Halloween Corsages 010

I used flower distressing and destructuring techniques learned at Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat. ..great for tattered looking roses…pretend the fuzzy look is on purpose to make the ladies more scary…

Catrina Halloween Corsages 011

Anyway, that’s how we are spending Pink Saturday, the fuzzy little Catrinas and I…If I can get some better pictures, I’ll put a couple in my Etsy shop…Enjoy your Pink Saturday visits and let’s  hope your Pink State of Mind lasts all week. Thanks for stopping by…LaVerne in Central Texas

Winter is just around the corner in my neck of the woods so Pink Saturday is even more meaningful for me because I won't see my garden bloom again until at least May of next year!

Thanks so much for your participation this week. It brightened my day☺

Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with happiness surrounded by those you love.

LaVerne, this was such an interesting post. I like thinking about scared "pink". Now, that would be fun.

Happy Pink Saturday.

They are still spotted at this time.

Show and Tell Sunday June 15

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
