Pretty in Pink Recycled Dishes/Yard Art

I’m a sucker for Pink…all of us are…I’m also a sucker for pretty dishes…especially Pink dishes. Well, look what I found at the Master Gardeners Herb and Plant Fair…

July Banners and pink flowers 004

Yard Art made of layered Pink dishes…looks like a luncheon plate, a shallow bowl, and a salt shaker!

If you look at the top of the pink rose, you can see that it’s actually a salt shaker! The craftsman who made it is from Austin. She had the most amazing combinations, but I knew this would be right at home with the Opal Basil and the Polka Dot plant.  I may let it spend some time in the side yard with the Purple Coneflower which isn’t purple at all, but a wonderful, bright Pink.

They were in full sun when I took this shot and the color is a bit washed out, but would you just look at all those buds! The flowers last forever and the center turns orange as it matures. Then the little finches come to eat the seeds. The deer love the flower buds, but leave the full open flowers alone. These are behind a little fence and I spray them with deer repellant to make them less attractive to the does and the fawns.

I’m heading out for a Margarita, some queso, and a fish taco in our favorite cantina on the banks of the Guadalupe River. But first I’ll link up with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound… I’ve noticed that my link is out of date, but my Blog guru, Nancy at My Crafty Little Page is not available to help me fix it…she just got a new knee last Friday and she is still working out the kinks…but, you know how to find your way back to Beverly’s Pink Saturday party.

That sculpture is so very sweet -- I can't believe that lovely rose in the middle is a salt shaker!
Enjoy that margarita!

Hello LaVerne. The pink yard art is awesome. A very clever idea. I wonder what kind of glue was used. Pretty yard and pretty flowers. I think that deer away smells awful. Something like dog doo. HA!It works though.
Wishing you a happy pink Sat. and Father's Day weekend.
love,
Jeanne

I love your yard art buy!! At one of my spring shows, we had a vendor who was selling similar items...CHEAP! She was a hit, for sure!!

Love your plants and coneflowers!! I had the coneflowers at my old house....and really loved them. I don't know why I've not planted them here...oh yes I do...I'm lazy!! :)

I hope your computer guru is feeling better!!! We all miss her wit and wisdom!

Hi, LaVerne. Thanks for mentioning your garden art post. Your piece is lovely as well. I found mine last year at an art fair and had a hard time deciding which to purchase. Some were crafted from very vibrant colored dishes but my heart was drawn to the soft pinks.

Have a happy July 4th holiday.

Show and Tell Sunday June 15

Flea Market Finds...sounds like my whole house and yard...

Milk Glass Collection

Milk Glass Collection
Who knew that a 25 cent flea market find would unleash such a collecting frenzy? I never pay more than a dollar unless it's a really nice piece. They are great grouped with a single daisy in each.

These used to be inexpensive florist vases in the 50's and 60's. Everyone's Grandmother had bunches.

Mexicana Dishes

Mexicana Dishes
My sister found these for me at Bussy's Flea Market in San Antonio, Texas. I had seen pictures in her Fiesta reference book. Mexicana was also made by Homer Laughlin in the 30's. I had been looking for several years without ever finding even a single piece when she found the set...with a promise to hold it for us, she came running to find me and I bought the entire set...60+ pieces for $50.

Mexicana

I've added to the set over the years, but the price and experience will never match that first amazing find.

Vintage Kitchen Hutch

Vintage Kitchen Hutch
When my hubby found this hutch it was Pepto pink and I was not 100% sure about it. But with a new red back and fresh white paint and refurbished hardware, it became one of my favorite pieces.

Nancy made me save the vine

Nancy made me save the vine
The vine and flowers painted on the inside were in such bad shape that I was ready to remove it all. Nancy -My Crafty Little Page convinced me to keep it and after some touch-up work, I'm glad I listened to her. My husband restores vintage Cushman motorscooters and he tries to make everything "mint" condition again. The Shabby Chic movement came along just in time to keep me from making some terrible mistakes.
